There are currently two types of listings in the Community Guide.
Both types of listings are free for local businesses, organizations, and farms and are organized into a wide network of other pages pertinent to people interested in the Green County area. You can think of the Guide as a phone book on steroids if you like. There are many similarities but there are also some significant differences.
Standard Listings
Standard listings are simple text listings featuring only basic contact information such as business name, address, phone numbers, and a short description. Here's an example of a Standard listing.
Chances are good that your local business or organization already has a Standard listing in the Community Guide. If not, a simple note to us can remedy the situation. Here's our standard contact form for doing just that.
Custom Listings
Custom listings on the other hand, have the potential to be a much more expressive and effective means of reaching new clientele via the web. A Custom listing can contain photographs and other graphics, lots of formatted text, hyperlinks, your own color scheme and more. A custom listing page contains no third party advertising and the full content area of the page is available for your use. Here's an example of a Custom listing.
Custom listings are great places to showcase more detail about your business or group. You can highlight services, products, and even add links to your website. Custom listings also give your business or group more exposure on the World Wide Web by increasing the content that gets indexed in the major search engines as well as the search engine built into the Guide. This increased exposure gives your group or business a better chance of bringing in new customers, members, volunteers, donors, etc. via the web.
Any authorized representative of a local business, organization, or farm can customize their associated listing in the Community Guide after they have set up and verified a FREE Green County Spotlight Business, Organization, or Farm account. Additionally, some pages in the guide are available that do not pertain to businesses, organizations or farms i.e. park pages, historical marker pages, etc. Any holder of a Green County Spotlight account who has specific knowledge on these subjects can apply to manage these pages. Also, if you submit a great idea for a new page in the Guide, you will be first in line to become and editor for that page if we do decide to add it.
To create a custom listing, you must hold a verified Green County Spotlight Personal, Business, Farm, or Organization account and be logged into the site. If you don't currently have an account, you can start by choosing an account type here.
Once you have created a business, farm, or organization account, we will automatically contact you to verify your account information (1 to 3 business days, usually, the next business day). Once we have verified your information, you will be able to access the editor via the "My Publication Desk" link on your account home page (My Spot).
If you wish to edit an existing non-commercial page (i.e. a park page) or have an idea for a page you would like to see in the Guide, you will need to take one additional step which is to contact us via the communications page with your request to edit pages in the Community Guide. Be sure to include your email and let us know what page you want to edit. Also, include any information you can about why you would be a good editor for that page.
