My grandson is on badgercare and is in desperate need of braces.  The total cost is 6250.00.  I was hoping that the free clinic could possilbe offer brace work allowing the parent to cover the difference of the cost after badgercare paid its share of the insurance coverage.  Please consider this option because there are a lot of children in the same condition as my grandson.

I wish to share some concerns regarding health care in Green County.  Our family has been facing a medical crisis the past few months and we have been unable to get the help we need.  Our son is struggling with an addiction to Heroin (a serious, growing concern affecting many, many young people in our area).  He has tried to quit several times but by the second or third day the withdrawal becomes unbearable.  We took him to the Monroe Clinic emergency room.  We were told that the Clinic is not equipped to treat this type of problem.  Our son was given some medication (which was inadequate to help him through withdrawal) and referred to Meriter’s New Start program in Madison.  Our son has Badger Care Plus Core insurance and we were told that his plan did not cover treatment at New Start.  The plan basically covers outpatient visits with a Psychiatrist.  We called the insurance company and were referred to the Samhsa.gov website.  Over the course of several days we contacted all the treatment facilities listed within a radius of 100 miles.  The response we received every time was, “Sorry, but your son’s insurance does not cover any treatment .”  Or, “If your son was a resident of this county, we could help him.  You need to call Green County.”  Which we have, and do understand that counseling is available, but not medical help.  We called the Monroe Clinic and explained our situation and asked if a physician could see our son and refer him.  We were told that there are no physicians who treat this problem and it would be several weeks before we could even get an appointment.  We were transferred to the Behavioral Health Department.  The person we spoke with said that our son could not see a Psychiatrist until he was “clean”.  He is trying to get “clean” but needs medical help in the process.  It was suggested that we call the insurance company and complain and also contact our State Representative.  This would certainly help in the long run, but does nothing to address our son’s immediate crisis.  Where do we go for the help we need?
